UbuWeb

Just found this place, this UbuWeb, this morning when I was looking for Barthes’ essay on the death of the author. It was originally published in a multi-media magazine-in-a-box called Aspen, which is archived here. Lots of other stuff here as well, e.g. a tribute to Mary Ellen Solt (1920-2007) with a collection of her concrete poems, e.g. Marigolds:

From the “inside”:
Essentially a gift economy, poetry is the perfect space to practice utopian politics. Freed from profit-making constraints or cumbersome fabrication considerations, information can literally “be free”: on UbuWeb, we give it away and have been doing so since 1996. We publish in full color for pennies. We receive submissions Monday morning and publish them Monday afternoon. UbuWeb’s work never goes “out of print.” UbuWeb is a never-ending work in progress: many hands are continually building it on many platforms.

It appears that the material on UbuWeb does take place in the ill-defined world of the Fair Use gift economy; in fact, it seems to be a case study of how to operate such a project.
Bill, you may want to take a look at another project by Goldsmith, specifically the Kenneth Goldsmith Sings Roland Barthes piece.
Whatever happened to Chun? It’s hard to avoid someone who has disappeared, that’s for sure.
