Steven Pinker on Tour
Steven Pinker’s on tour touting his new book, The Stuff of Thought. I heard him last night at the Barnes and Noble on Broadway and 82nd in NYC. He gave very good talk, PowerPoint included. First he runs through the language of space, time, and cause; then language and emotion; finally language and social relationships.
The language and emotion section is mostly about swearing. He covers some of George Carlin’s seven words, many times, in many versions. I think he wrote the book just so he could tour around saying all these words.
If you live in the USA or England chances are he’ll be coming to a city near you. Check him out, it’s an enjoyable hour.

I’d love to listen to him Monday evening here in Washington DC, but unfortunately it’d cost me $25 dollars, as I am not a member of the Smithsonian something-or-other.
