A Century in Photos
Millions of photographs from the LIFE archive are now online through Google. It’s an astounding resource. Some searches on literary figures: Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, Virginia Woolf, Ernest Hemingway, Thomas Mann, Gertrude Stein, Jean-Paul Sartre, Pearl Buck, James Michener, Mary McCarthy.
Comments
My favourite literary find so far: this picture of Daphne du Maurier, looking like she just stepped into one of her own books. The archives also contain numerous photos of original manuscripts by various authors and poets.
The Dickens illustrations are really something, too.
I reposted his link for our Victorian students (thanks Bill), and in doing so was struck by the resemblance between Dickens and Victoria Beckham.
I see the resemblance, Adam, but I think Dickens needs a few sprinkles of glitter to complete the look.
